Abstract

This study explores the role of the church and society in mentoring the next generation, with a focus on the biblical foundations of mentoring. The church is seen as a community of believers where members are nurtured and given the space to grow, discovering themselves in relation to God, fellow human beings, and the world. The concept of mentoring is examined, highlighting its origins in Greek texts and its association with discipleship, learning, and accompanying. The study explores biblical examples of mentoring, tracing its roots and biblical foundations in both the Old and New Testaments. It discusses the importance of church and societal mentorship for leadership development and succession planning, emphasizing the significance of intentional mentoring in developing effective leaders who can positively impact both the church and society. This study employed a qualitative, theological research approach, drawing on biblical and theological sources to explore the role of the church and society in mentoring. The study concludes that the church and society must prioritize mentoring initiatives by providing an environment that encourages mentorship, discipleship, and leadership development to empower the next generation.
